The opportunity

 

The Assurance Framework Consultant is responsible for developing, enhancing, and embedding an effective Assurance Framework that strengthens risk management and control effectiveness across the organisation.

The role uses data, insight, and collaboration to identify emerging risks, improve controls, and drive continuous improvement in assurance processes and methodologies. It supports informed decision‑making through high‑quality reporting, thematic analysis, and the coordination of targeted assurance activities.

This is a contract hybrid role based in our Swindon office, with 3 days required in the office.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Drive continual enhancement of the Assurance Framework, ensuring it remains forward‑looking, risk‑aligned, and responsive to emerging regulatory and business risks.
  • Act as a key contributor to the effective design and delivery of Openwork’s Assurance Model and associated Quality & Partnership processes, ensuring alignment with industry regulation and internal standards.
  • Coordinate with business owners to review, strengthen, and embed effective controls across operational areas.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency while enhancing control effectiveness.
  • Use root cause insights from data analysis to evolve and strengthen the control environment.
  • Analyse outputs from dashboards, ARIU insights, and BAU controls to identify trends and intervention opportunities.
  • Continuously refine risk‑based KPIs to better inform decision-making and drive targeted interventions.
  • Identify and shape technology, analytics, and data tools that will enhance the scalability and future capability of the assurance model.
  • Define, plan, and coordinate thematic reviews and detailed investigations, ensuring robust methodology and actionable findings.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders and MI teams to identify emerging risks requiring thematic focus or deeper investigation.
  • Produce high‑quality reporting for Executive bodies and governance committees, clearly articulating risks, insights, and recommendations.

What will you need to succeed?

  • Experience in a Training & Competence (T&C), assurance, risk, or related oversight role, is essential. 
  • Proven experience conducting root cause analysis and providing clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Experience working with management information (MI), dashboards, or data analysis to generate insights and support decision‑making.
  • Understanding of assurance models, control frameworks, or risk‑based oversight approaches.
  • Experience contributing to or delivering process improvements, change activity, or cross‑functional projects.
  • Confident using digital tools, data platforms, or technology solutions to support assurance and insight generation.
  • Level 4 Diploma in financial planning, desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of FCA Principles for Businesses, Supervision and T&C requirements.
  • Good understanding of Conduct Risk and approaches to its mitigation.
  • Good understanding of the Senior Managers & Certification Regime for solo‑regulated firms.
  • Broad understanding of the financial services industry and general risk management principle.
