The opportunity

Following recent investment from Bain Capital and aligned with our strategic goals around succession and renewal in the network, we’re building a team to oversee and manage our strategic investments into the franchisees within The Openwork Partnership.

As Senior Portfolio Manager in our Strategic Investments team, you will lead the performance and management of acquisitions, disposals and owned businesses, driving strategic growth. Reporting to the Strategic Investments Director, you’ll be able to influence outcomes, steer initiatives, and ensure delivery of our Adviser proposition through M&A execution.

This is a permanent hybrid role, and can be based in either our Swindon or London office, with the requirement to be in the office 2 days a week.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing the evaluation, negotiation, and execution of acquisitions and disposals within the portfolio, collaborating with senior leadership, legal, and financial teams.
  • Manage the full deal lifecycle, from due diligence to structuring, negotiation, and post-transaction integration or exit.
  • Overseeing the structuring of deals, focusing on maximising value through tailored financial solutions, ensuring alignment with the broader strategic goals of the financial advice network.
  • Monitoring and driving the performance of all portfolio businesses, driving management teams to ensure adherence to financial targets and strategic goals.
  • Delivering on value creation plans to enhance the operational and financial performance of each portfolio company and ensure wider team are focused on these targets
  • Providing ongoing strategic direction to portfolio companies and maintain strong relationships with portfolio company management
  • Regularly reporting on portfolio performance to senior leadership, highlighting key developments, risks, and opportunities, as well as recommending adjustments to strategies when necessary.

What will you need to succeed?

  • Strong experience gained in the Financial Services sector. 
  • Experience in leading a team to deliver transaction execution, including acquisitions, disposals, and structuring deals, preferably within the financial advice or wealth management sectors.
  • Relevant post graduate professional qualification (e.g. ACA, CFA) desirable
  • Good understanding of the UK financial advice market, including regulatory frameworks (FCA), client servicing models, and adviser business structures.
  • Awareness of business commercials and ability to identify risks and commercial mitigations
  • Very strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior management, external advisors, investors, and portfolio company leadership.
  • Strategic thinking and operational insight to optimise portfolio performance and align businesses with broader network goals.
  • Proven experience driving value creation and performance improvement in portfolio businesses, with a focus on operational enhancements, client retention, and revenue growth.
  • Able to take responsibility for delivery to challenging financial and commercial targets and manage a portfolio of investments to an overall target return
  • Ability to lead collaboratively in a cross-functional team, managing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
