The opportunity

Openwork’s technology function is undergoing significant transformation, and we are seeking a Strategy & Planning Manager to provide the structure, discipline, and coordination that keeps the function operating at its best. This role is the operational anchor for the CTO and leadership team, ensuring governance is robust, reporting is clear, and delivery stays aligned to strategic commitments.

You won’t define technology strategy, but you will ensure it is communicated effectively, monitored rigorously, and executed consistently. This is an ideal opportunity for a highly organised, commercially minded operator who excels in complex, fast‑moving environments.

THE BENEFITS:

  • Salary – up to £80,000
  • Bonus scheme - on target bonus - 17.5%
  • Pension scheme - contribute up to 5% of your salary and Openwork will match you and put in an extra 5%
  • Critical illness cover
  • Income protection
  • Death in service - 4x salary
  • 27 days holiday + bank holidays, with the opportunity to buy up to an additional 10 days
  • A range of other flexible benefits to include private medical insurance, dental insurance and much more.

 KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Lead the governance and operating rhythm of the technology function, including leadership meetings, board reporting, quarterly reviews, and planning cycles.
  • Produce high‑quality reporting and briefing materials for senior stakeholders, including board papers, ExCo updates, dashboards, and adviser communications.
  • Track progress against technology strategy commitments, highlighting risks, dependencies, and delivery issues.
  • Coordinate cross‑programme activity across Nexus, Clean Slate, and Zero Friction to ensure alignment and smooth handoffs.
  • Lead and develop the Technology Project Managers and Governance & Risk Lead.
  • Manage the technology budget, maintaining accurate spend tracking and supporting forecasting in partnership with Finance.
  • Oversee people processes across the function, including performance cycles, talent planning, engagement activity, and onboarding.

What will you need to succeed?

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

  • Experience in business management, programme coordination, or operations within technology, financial services, or another complex environment.
  • Strong written communication skills, with experience producing polished board‑level materials.
  • Confidence managing budgets and financial reporting.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to influence without formal authority.
  • High levels of discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
  • Solid technology literacy and familiarity with delivery frameworks and programme terminology.
  • Comfort working in a fast‑paced transformation environment.
